The Power of Names

19 10 2007

I had never thought about what I was going to name my children. But, after a conversation about a kid named after liquor, I just automatically started thinking about having children and naming them. I don’t know how many people actually think about what they are going to name their kids when they are fifteen years old. I think I want to name my kids after some of my beloved characters, but I don’t know how that would go over with their father unless he really didn’t care, and then I would ask myself: “why did I have kids with this man?” Anyway. I think I would name one kid Phoenix and then another kid would definitely be named something…I don’t know.  I don’t know what I would name my female  child yet, because I have many possibilities but none of them are very original.  I was thinking  Bellatryx, like Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter because I love that name.

I read in a book somewhere that elves really understand the power of names.  Not that elves are real, but at the same time it made me wonder, because they never told anyone their real name, because once you know their real name, you have power over them, and isn’t that kind of true nowadays?  You can find out where they live, what their phone number is, what school they attend…I don’t know.  Is there power to names?
